Gordon Banks yet again a Wembley hero
THE Olympic torch could hardly have been in safer hands than here with goalkeeping legend Gordon Banks.
The England hero, now 74, waved to crowds as he received the flame from badminton champion Nathan Robertson, 35,
outside Wembley Stadium, scene of his greatest moment, the 1966 World Cup win.
Banks joined Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint, 23, and former decathlete champion Daley Thompson, 53, in carrying the torch across north London.
The flame was passed to the oldest woman in the relay, 100-year-old Diana Gould
The flame was passed to the oldest woman in the relay, 100-year-old Diana Gould, who was met by London Mayor Boris Johnson.
There was also the royal seal of approval yesterday for the torch – with Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, attending a Mencap community centre in Tottenham, applauding as the flame went passed.
