Volley dollies stop the traffic
THE mere mention of women’s beach volleyball is normally enough to stop the traffic.
But the actual appearance of Great Britain’s Olympic hopefuls in their bikini-style playing outfits yesterday almost created chaos with central London’s rush-hour.
Denise Johns, 33, Lucy Bolton, 25, Shauna Mullin , 27, and Zara Dampney, 25, made the most of the sunshine by stripping down to the bare essentials to help London transport bosses highlight how busy the roads will be in July and August.
The idea was to alert drivers to road changes, which will see special lanes imposed for Olympic vehicles.
Whether or not the message got across, what is certain is that our beach volleyball girls are in great shape. They may not be red-hot favourites to be among the medals but they made the most of a practice session outside the Houses of Parliament, close to Horse Guards Parade in Whitehall where the competition will be held.
Zara said: “Today’s unusual training session was great fun to be a part of and we hope it will help road users understand the need for flexibility to make this Games an amazing experience for everyone.”
