Emma is honoured, 24 years after dad
TELEVISION presenter Emma Freud made a poignant visit to Buckingham Palace yesterday, where she received an OBE from the Queen.
Ms Freud, 49, received the honour for her charity work as a trustee of Comic Relief. It echoed a visit she made to the Palace in 1987 when her father Clement received a knighthood.
She has helped produce live TV and documentaries for the charity and this year’s Red Nose Day raised £74.3million, the highest amount pledged in a night in the event’s 23-year history.
She said: “I don’t feel like it belongs to us. It belongs to the British people.”
Also honoured was Bank of England Governor Sir Mervyn King, 63, widely seen as a stabilising force in the economy, who received his knighthood.
