Children poisoned by Loyd Grossman sauce
TWO young children were in hospital last night with botulism after eating a contaminated jar of Loyd Grossman Korma sauce.
Consumers were warned not to eat certain batches of the sauce after a jar was found to contain the deadly bacterium.
The Food Standards Agency said the batch was the subject of a full recall and was being removed from shelves.
The children, who are members of the same family, were taken to hospital in Scotland.
Advice An antitoxin which is very effective in treating botulism has been given to both patients.
The agency said one jar from the batch is known to have been contaminated with the bacteria Clostridium botulinum which causes botulism.
It advised people not to eat sauce from a batch of 350g jars with a bestbefore date of February 2013 and batch code of 1218R 07:21. No other Loyd Grossman products are thought to be affected.
