Man held in traffic ticket con
A MAN suspected of issuing 200 fake parking tickets has been arrested by police.
The notices, handed out to residents, claimed to be from the fictitious Greater Manchester Highways Safety Monitoring Partnership.
They demand a fine of £60, or £35 if paid within 10 days.
But some of the victims in Sale, Greater Manchester, smelled a rat after noticing the “fines” could be paid only by cheque or postal order to a PO Box address.
The tickets also failed to give full details of the offence or of the vehicle.
Tracey Staley, of Greater Manchester Police, said: “We are investigating this matter and I would ask anyone who has been issued with a ticket to report it to their local police station.”
Trafford Council and Greater Manchester Police are the only two authorities that can issue parking tickets in that area.
I would ask anyone who has been issued with a ticket to report it to their local police station.
A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of fraud and bailed pending further inquiries.
