100 years on the clock
PENSIONER Peggy Hovell has been nicknamed “Top Dear” – because she is still driving at the age of 100.
The widow, who learned to drive in 1925 – a decade before tests became compulsory – has never had an accident.
“The only time I took a test was when I turned 98 and my insurance tried to put the price up,” said Peggy, from Ferndown, Dorset. “I decided to take a test myself so I got an examiner to come out.
“I’ve the letter where he says ‘Mrs Hovell drives as well as a good driver 30-40 years younger’.”
