Northern Ireland bomb kills rookie policeman
A ROOKIE policeman was killed yesterday when a bomb exploded beneath his car in Northern Ireland.
The officer’s vehicle was parked outside his home in Omagh, Co Tyrone.
The dead officer was believed to be 25, a Catholic and qualified as a policeman only a month ago.
Sinn Fein president Gerry Adams condemned those responsible. He said: “I want to send my condolences to his family at this hugely traumatic time.”
The explosion, which happened at about 4pm, follows a week of terrorist activity in Northern Ireland just a month before the Queen’s visit to the Republic of Ireland.
Last Sunday police found a bomb by a court in Londonderry planted by suspected dissident republicans opposed to the peace process.
