Police officers and emergency services workers were deployed on a stretch of the M4, which was brought to a halt after an incident. All lanes were closed on Friday morning on the M4 westbound between J42 and J43.

One lane was later reopened, but Traffic Wales warned drivers to plan accordingly and expect delays. A spokesperson for the organisation said: "M4 between J42 Earlswood and J43 Llandarcy travelling Westbound. Traffic is currently on stop. There are long delays in the area. Allow extra time for your journey."

Recap: What happened on the M4 this morning?

-Earlier disruption affected the M4 eastbound between J42 (A483 Swansea East/Briton Ferry) and J41 (A48 Pentyla-Baglan Road, Baglan/Pentyla).

-Traffic was initially brought to a stop, with lanes closed and long delays reported.

-As the incident was dealt with, lanes gradually reopened and delays reduced to around three minutes.

-The incident has now been cleared, all lanes are open, and traffic has returned to normal.

Delays around three minutes

According to the AA, Traffic is easing on the M4 eastbound between J42 (A483 Swansea East/Briton Ferry) and J41 (A48 Pentyla-Baglan Road, Baglan/Pentyla).

Delays are currently around three minutes, with average speeds of approximately 15mph. Motorists should continue to allow a little extra time for their journeys while congestion clears.

Delays are now expected to ease after traffic was brought to a  complete standstill around 40 minutes ago.

The M4 between J42 Earlswood and J43 Llandarcy travelling Westbound is reported to have been cleared.
