M4 traffic RECAP: Closure near Heathrow Airport as 1 person dies after two-vehicle crash

Here is the full statement from the force.

"The Met is investigating after a man died in a collision on the M4 at Hillingdon.

"Police were called at 23.37hrs on Monday, 1 June to reports of a serious collision between two cars on the M4 near Junction 4.

"The occupants of one car, a white VW Golf, were treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.

"Sadly, a 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

"A woman, aged 62, was taken to hospital where she remains in a life-threatening condition. A 29-year-old man was also taken to hospital where his injuries were deemed not to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"It is understood that the second car, a black BMW 320i, had been pursued by officers from Thames Valley Police prior to the collision on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle. They were not in pursuit at the time of the collision.

"The occupant, a man, made off from the scene on foot. Officers are now working to track him down as the investigation continues."

A man has died after "a serious collision between two cars on the M4 near Junction 4," the Metropolitan Police said.

National Highways officers are working with emergency services to reopen lanes "as soon as it is safe to do so".

National Highways is reminding motorists that "there is currently no estimated time of when the carriageway will re-open".

There are delays of two hours and 6 miles of heavy congestion between J1 and the closure at J3, the traffic authority also said.

M4 westbound traffic:

At junction 3 exit the M4 and take the 3rd exit onto the A312 'The Parkway'.

Continue following the A312 'The Parkway' through three roundabouts for approx. 4.1 miles.

At the fourth roundabout take the second exit and continue on the A312 'Church Road'.

At the next roundabout take the 1st exit and join the A40 westbound.

Continue on the A40 as it merges into the M40

At J1A exit the M40 to access the M25 anti-clockwise J16 to J15.

Follow the M25 anti-clockwise to J15 and exit at J15 to access J4B M4.

Contractors are at the scene dealing with spillage and clean up.

Delays are building in the area, and there are currently 150mins and seven miles of congestion on approach, National Highways said.

In another update, National Highways said "there are delays of 2 hours minutes and 6 miles of heavy congestion between J1 and the closure at J3".

All emergency services, including the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service, have been in attendance.

At J3 exit the M4 and take the 1st exit on to the A312 'The Parkway'.

At 'Waggoner's roundabout take the 3rd exit onto the A4 'Bath Road'.

At the A408/Nene Road turn left and exit the A4.

At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto 'East Ramp' the next roundabout is the Heathrow Tunnel roundabout.

National Highways said: "Collision investigations are expected to take several hours and will be protracted.

"There is currently no estimated time of when the carriageway will re-open.

"There are delays of 75 minutes and 4 miles of heavy congestion between J2 and the closure at J3."

All emergency services including the Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been in attendance.

National Highways Traffic Officers are in attendance to assist with traffic management.

All traffic caught up within the closure has now been turned around via the rear of the queue.

Collision investigations are expected to take several hours and will be protracted.

There is currently no estimated time of when the carriageway will re-open.

The M4 in Greater London is closed westbound between J3 near (Feltham) and J4B near Heathrow Airport following a multi vehicle collision.

All emergency services including Metropolitan Police and London Ambulance Service have been in attendance.

National Highways Traffic Officers are in attendance to assist with traffic management.

Road users are advised to follow the hollow diamond signage.

M4 westbound traffic:

Emergency services are working on scene to clear the traffic caught in the closure. Currently no significant delays.
