A Doncaster pub that has been trading since 2020 has entered liquidation, according to a notice published in the London Gazette. The Sportsman, located on Armthorpe Road in Doncaster, was incorporated on July 21, 2020.

The official notice confirms that THE SPORTSMAN DONCASTER LIMITED, trading as The Sportsman, has passed a resolution to wind up the company voluntarily. At a General Meeting held on April 16, 2026, members agreed: “That the company be wound up voluntarily and that Darren Edwards (IP No. 10350) of Exigen Group Limited T/A Liquidation Centre, Warehouse W, 3 Western Gateway, Royal Victoria Docks, London, E16 1BD be, and is hereby, appointed Liquidator of the Company for the purpose of the winding up.”

A resolution confirming the appointment of the liquidator was made at a virtual meeting of creditors on the same day.

The London Gazette lists the company’s registered office and principal trading address as The Sportsman Doncaster, Armthorpe Road, Doncaster, DN2 5QB.

The nature of the business is described as “Public houses and bars”.

The type of liquidation is recorded as creditors’ voluntary liquidation, with Darren Edwards formally appointed on April 16, 2026. The appointment was made by members and creditors.

The Sportsman describes itself as offering “good food & great times at The Sportsman” and says visitors will be greeted “with open arms and a friendly smile”.

The venue says it offers “tasty food at a great price” including XL burgers, traditional pub classics, light bites and sharing platters, alongside draught lagers, craft beers, wine, cocktails and soft drinks.

It also promotes family nights out and says its dishes are prepared by “talented chefs using the freshest ingredients”.

The pub’s Facebook page still appears to be active, with a post on May 5 saying that new benches have arrived for the beer garden.

A creditors’ voluntary liquidation typically means a company’s directors have chosen to close the business because it cannot pay its debts.

Under the process, a licensed insolvency practitioner is appointed to manage the winding up of the company’s affairs and deal with outstanding debts.

It is not yet clear what the liquidation will mean for the pub's future.

The Express has contacted The Sportsman Doncaster for comment.
