M25 traffic: Motorists at standstill after huge multi-vehicle crash with 2-hour delay

Traffic chaos has struck the M25 during the evening rush hour after a huge multi-vehicle crash and delays of more than an hour. Vehicles have been stopped on the UK's busiest motorway in Surrey, anti-clockwise between junction 9 (Leatherhead) and junction 8 (Reigate). 

Drivers approaching the accident have been warned to expect delays of up to an hour beyond normal travel times and to allow extra time for their journey. National Highways said in a statement: "There are delays of 90 minutes above normal travel times on the M25 in Surrey anti-clockwise between J10 (for the A3, Guildford) and J8 (Reigate) following a road traffic collision involving 2 vehicles which occurred shortly before 3:30pm."

Traffic released

The National Highways said in an update: "Traffic has been released on the M25 in Surrey anti-clockwise between J9 (Leatherhead) and J8 (Reigate) following a collision."

Motorists urged to re-route

The National Highways said in an update: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time. Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey.

"Our 24/7 contact centre team is also available to provide up to the minute information on 0300 123 5000."

Delays of upto 90 minutes

The National Highways updated that motorists are now facing delays of upto 90 minutes.
