Baby P’s father is denied inquest
A FULL inquest into the death of Peter Connelly at the hands of his mother and her paedophile lover was turned down yesterday against the wishes of the boy’s father.
Baby Peter died of multiple injuries in 2007 aged just 17 months after a life of torture. His mother Tracey Connelly, her lover Steven Barker and his brother Jason Owen were jailed for causing or allowing the death of a child.
There have been several investigations into social services in the London Borough of Haringey, where Peter lived, NHS practices and the Metropolitan Police. Yesterday North London Coroner’s Court heard that all these hearings made a full inquest unnecessary.
Coroner Andrew Walker said: “It’s unlikely a resumed inquest would unearth any significant new facts.”

The coroner asked if anyone objected to him issuing a final death certificate, which would prevent any further public inquiry.
Julien Foster, representing Peter’s father, asked for a 28-day delay to let his client take legal advice and “reflect carefully” on the decision.
Mr Walker said he would grant the request if it was within his power to do so.
