Traffic wardens hit with stones
TRAFFIC wardens have stopped issuing tickets on a housing estate after angry motorists pelted them with eggs and stones.
Council chiefs ordered wardens to no longer hand out fines for parking offences on some roads because they feared staff would face more assaults and verbal abuse.
Bosses are now carrying out a “risk assessment” and vow to take legal action against anyone who abuses their wardens.

Many of the streets in the Shirley Warren area of Southampton, Hampshire, have a residents’ parking permit scheme to stop visitors to a nearby hospital using the spaces.
Local Christina Gallagher, 56, said: “Some people get frustrated because you need a parking permit to leave your car outside your own house.”
Unison branch secretary Mike Tucker said: “We don’t think it is reasonable to expect people to go into a work environment where they’re going to get assaulted.
“They’re just carrying out council regulations.”
