The big winner at the Inside Soap Awards held at the trendy north London venue Shaka Zulu, was BBC1’s EastEnders, which scooped six statuettes, including top prize of Best Soap.
Its haul also meant a fifth consecutive Best Actress win for Lacey Turner, who stars as Stacey Branning.
But Coronation Street, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in December, landed four prizes.
Corrie’s Michelle Keegan, who plays bolshy Tina McIntyre, was awarded the Sexiest Female for the second year running.
Stephen Murphy, editor of Inside Soap mag, said: “It is wonderful to be able to reward the amazing work we’ve seen this year.”
Best Newcomer went to EastEnders’ Ricky Norwood for his role as Arthur ‘Fatboy’ Chubb.
Corrie’s Alex Bain, who plays Simon Barlow, won his second Best Young Actor award.
Craig Gazey, Weatherfield’s hapless butcher Graeme Proctor, received the Funniest Performance honour.
He said: “The fact it’s an award from viewers is special.”
