Known for its charming blend of old and new, Farnham has been named the "best place to live in the UK".

A tiny town with its mix of community, good schools, culture and immediate surroundings has been named the “best place to live” in the UK.

Farnham, a little village bursting with Georgian architecture, cobbled streets, and historical landmarks, making it a popular spot for both residents and visitors.

According to the new 2024 Muddy Stilettos list, the Surrey town has been hailed as better than all the rest. 

Located around 35 miles away from south west of London, the market town has a charming blend of old and new. 

According to Muddy Stilettos: “In Surrey, the elegant town of Farnham won top spot with its abundance of character, excellent amenities and vibrant community feel.”

Farnham has everything on its doorstep; a cinema, shops, restaurants and lots of outdoor space.

The high street is lively, with boutique shops and nice wine bars, reports Surrey Live

The town is home to excellent independent schools like Frensham Heights, Barfield, and Edgeborough. 

It also boasts highly regarded state schools, including South Farnham, Highfield, and St Peter’s Church of England.

According to RightMove, the average property price in Farnham over the past year was £676,608. Detached homes accounted for most sales, with an average price of £998,993.

Semi-detached properties averaged £543,767, while terraced homes sold for around £419,937. 

Overall, property prices in Farnham were 4 percent lower than the previous year but 6 percent higher than the 2021 peak of £637,205.

The town is surrounded by the scenic Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, offering residents and visitors a range of outdoor activities, such as walking and cycling. 

Farnham Park, with its expansive green spaces and woodlands, is a popular local spot for recreation.

It is also well-connected by road and rail, with a direct train service to London Waterloo, making it a desirable location for commuters. 

The town also lies near major roads like the A31 and A3, providing access to the surrounding region.

Farnham is recognised as a creative hub and is home to the University for the Creative Arts (UCA), which attracts students in design, arts, and media.

The town also hosts a number of cultural events, including Farnham Maltings, a centre for the arts offering performances, exhibitions, and festivals.
