Massive column of smoke fills the air as huge blaze hits town

Several firefighters rushed to a town in Greater Manchester after a massive blaze erupted at a caravan storage yard in the town of Chadderton, Oldham.
Astonishing pictures shared on social media showed a huge column of thick smoke, which could be seen from miles away, rising into the air.
The fiery flames appeared to have destroyed some of the caravans at the scene, Manchester Evening News reported.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shortly after 8:50pm this evening, six fire engines from Chadderton, Oldham, Hollins, Heywood, Rochdale and Ashton fire stations, were called to a fire on Stock Lane, Chadderton.
"Firefighters arrived quickly and are currently working to extinguish the fire and make the area safe.
"Crews remain in attendance at this time."
Residents living near the scene have reported hearing a number of loud explosions coming from the scene of the blaze.
Dale Harris wrote on X: "Couple of loud explosions in Chadderton & a lot of smoke travelling around. Hope whatever it is everyone is safe and ok."
No injuries were initially reported.

Investigators are said to be trying to work out the cause of the fire, currently unknown.
The fire was seemingly extinguished by firefighters at around 10.30pm, as a picture from the scene showed only smoke engulfing the air.
