Police manhunt after horse mutilated and killed in sickening attack

Police are asking anyone with CCTV or information to come forward.

A manhunt has been launched to find the killer of a horse who was mutilated in Nottinghamshire.

Alfie, a 16-year-old cob was found killed on Thursday morning.

Police are looking for the killer who mutilated the horse and left it to die on a field, they are also asking horse owners in the area to be vigilant.

The attack took place on Owday Lane, Carlton-in-Lindrick, Worksop in Nottinghamshire.

Alfie was last seen alive at 7pm on Wednesday before his owner washed him and let him out into a field for the night.

Police say the assault on the defenceless animal has left his owner ‘distraught’.


Detectives working on the investigation to find the killer are appealing for witnesses and are warning horse owners to be aware of potential similar attacks.

Chief Inspector Clive Collings, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Although it's difficult to believe, all of the evidence shows that this was a sickening, heartless assault on a defenceless animal. This is the epitome of a senseless and violence attack.

“Alfie's owner has been left distraught by his cruel death and wants justice for him.”


To help with finding the murderer, police are asking anyone with CCTV or doorbell camera footage to come forward.

One social media user said: “How utterly wicked to such a thing to a beautifully natured animal. Absolutely heartbreaking for the owners.”

Another commented: “Senseless, utmost abuse, cruelty and a barbaric act. I feel for the owner, this must have been shocking and heartbreaking to find.”
