Ryanair customers travelling on Wednesday and have been warned of "potential delays" in and out of the UK, as ATC staff strikes continue to impact holidaymakers.

The carrier said low visibility, which is outside of its control, was to blame for any potential disruptions.

Rynair said in a statement: "Due to low visibility at London Stansted this morning delaying the first wave of flights, we advise passengers due to travel to/from Stansted today Wednesday 24 July of potential delays throughout the day.

"Affected passengers will be notified and any passengers travelling to/from London Stansted should check their Ryanair app for the latest updates on their flight.

"We regret any inconvenience caused to passengers by these weather conditions, which are outside of Ryanair's control and affect all airlines operating to/from London Stansted Wednesday 24 July."

Rynair also continues to warn passengers that ongoing strikes by air traffic control staff in a long-running dispute over pay may disrupt holiday plans this summer.

The industrial action, which has been continuing for weeks, has seen flights with Ryanair and other carriers delayed.

Addressing the impact of the strike action, the airline said: "Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, on Wednesday 24 July apologises to its passengers for the excessive flight delays caused by European ATC staff shortages today Wednesday 24 July which are affecting all European airlines.

"ATC services, which have had the benefit of no French ATC strike disruption this summer, continue to underperform (despite flight volumes being five per cent behind 2019 levels) with repeated 'staff shortages'.

"On Wednesday 24 July, 23 per cent of Ryanair’s first wave departures (136 of 580 aircraft) were delayed due to ATC 'staff shortages'. These repeated flight delays due to ATC mismanagement are unacceptable.

"We apologise to our passengers for these repeated ATC flight delays which are deeply regrettable but beyond Ryanair’s control."

Brits on their way to popular European hotspots have also been warned to follow local guidance as extreme weather strikes in major holiday hubs like Spain and Italy.

Some parts of Europe are expected to see temperatures in excess of 40C, so travellers have been told to take necessary precautions to stay safe in the heat.
