A tiny airport in a beautiful UK city is all set for record tourist numbers as it introduces a major rule change. Bristol Airport is gearing up for a surge in passengers, with an estimated 1.6 million people expected to pass through its gates from mid-July to early September.

With summer holidays approaching, holidaymakers are jetting off to popular destinations such as Palma de Majorca and Alicante.

The August bank holiday weekend alone is set to see around 155,000 travellers using Bristol Airport.

Given this, the airport has reminded travellers of an important security rule introduced by the Department for Transport last month.

In June, the DoT reversed its decision to relax restrictions on carrying liquids over 100ml in hand luggage at UK airports.

Passengers can still bring bottles of liquids, gels, and pastes through security, provided they are 100ml or less.

Bristol Airport has emphasised the importance of emptying pockets and placing loose items in hand luggage before going through security.

Metal water bottles should be emptied, and coats, hats and belts should be placed in the tray provided, with a hand luggage bag on top.

Travellers may also be asked to remove their shoes, as BristolLive reports.

Items such as pushchairs and car seats that haven’t been checked in, along with wheelchairs and Walking aids will be subject to search.

To avoid potential delays at security, the airport recommends packing only essential items in hand luggage.

Children who are one meter or taller must use the security scanner.

If they cannot maintain the required position or are shorter than this height, a hand search will be performed.

Bristol Airport reminds customers to arrive at the terminal well in advance of their flight time to allow enough time for check-in, bag drop, security checks, and boarding processes.
