Up and down the nation nervous England fans are eagerly anticipating Euro 2024’s dramatic conclusion.

Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions have not so much roared into the final as stumbled and staggered there off the back of a favourable draw and lashings of luck along the way.

But how our heroic boys reached Sunday’s game against Spain is now utterly irrelevant.

The fact is they have shown admirable fighting spirit to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat on multiple occasions.

They have kept us on the edge of our seats with last-minute goals and a tense penalty shootout.

What matters now is that we unite behind our team and propel them to victory in Germany.

With rail bookings to Berlin on the Trainline app surging by 825% after Wednesday’s historic win in Dortmund, Euro fever is well and truly setting in.

Sakshi Anand, VP of Growth and UK GM for Trainline, said: “Football may be coming home, but it seems after Wednesday’s historic victory fans are flocking in the other direction.

“Our data clearly shows as the match progressed, fan optimism grew, and many started to book trains to Berlin, as they go all out to see England’s shot at glory.”

Back home, fans are gearing up for what could be England’s first major competition final win on foreign soil in history.

Speaking to the Express in Southampton from The Saints Pub festooned with flags from competing Euro 2024 nations, bar manager Leanne Jones wore an England top and the St George's Cross draped around her shoulders.

She said: “This helps to bring the spirit up. I’ve helped put up the flags around the pub and I’ll encourage others to get out, put out the bunting and get behind England.

“I haven’t seen many flags out, despite us being in the final.”

In Brighton Alan Rose, 64, a warehouse operative proudly showed off St George’s flags from the windows of his home.

He said: “I am surprised by the lack of the flags that are out there. I don't remember seeing too many around here.”

Asked if he was feeling optimistic about the result, he said: “I am not too sure - it is going to be a tough game. It is 50-50 but we have been improving with every game.”

Also in Brighton builder Wayne Scotts, 42, said he was looking forward to watching the game with his family and young daughter.

He said: “Our fingers are crossed. I will be watching with the family and kids who are very excited!”

Wayne was proudly displaying the England flag outside his home and said it helped to create a sense of community in the area.

He said: “You used to see a lot more of it back in the day. But now it is just us and my neighbours.

“It is the same people that put them up every time.”

“The same people who put out Christmas lights and Halloween displays.”
