Many men would prefer a less conventional Father's Day gift according to new research.
Father’s Day is fast approaching and as we’re inundated with the ever-uninspiring options of tools, beer and golf clubs, it turns out a lot of men would actually prefer to receive a bunch of flowers to celebrate their big day.
In fact, it turns out 60 percent of men would love to be gifted fresh flowers, according to a poll by the Society of American Florists, but only 12% have ever received them.
And according to research by Rutgers University, men who receive flowers actually become happier, more communicative, and appreciative.
Alex Biggart, from 123 Flowers, says: “It’s no surprise that men love flowers just as much as women. A bouquet is a powerful way of expressing love and appreciation without needing to say much. The effort that goes into selecting the perfect arrangement is something men truly value.”
He adds: “Flowers have traditionally been seen as a gift for women for decades, but there’s no reason why men shouldn’t receive them too. I’ve witnessed men being deeply moved when given flowers because it’s such a rare and unexpected gift.
“Father’s Day is an ideal opportunity to surprise the man in your life with something truly special.”
The Rutgers study also showed that flowers have “immediate and long-term effects on emotional reactions, mood, social behaviours, and even memory for both males and females.”
Alex adds: “It’s widely known that flowers help reduce stress levels and anxiety and I’m sure we all know a man who could benefit from some stress relief and a boost in mood.”
