A young man in his 20s plunged a Jet2 flight into chaos as it was forced to divert on its route from Glasgow Airport when he reportedly became aggressive towards cabin crew and fellow passengers.

The holiday flight left for Tenerife around 4pm on Wednesday (June 12) and pandemonium broke out mid-air. Allegedly, the passenger turned violent, causing several onboard to restrain him, ensuring the safe landing of the plane at Shannon Airport, Ireland where police swiftly boarded to arrest him.

He is currently being held in custody by Garda officers, who are looking into the incident. A Garda spokesperson said: "Garda attached to Shannon Airport arrested a man, aged in his 20s, following an incident on board an aircraft that diverted to Shannon Airport yesterday evening Wednesday, June 12, 2024 at approximately 5.30pm."

They continued: "Gardai met the aircraft and arrested the man under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in County Clare."

According to Glasgow Live, they added: "Investigations ongoing."

Meanwhile, a Jet2 spokesperson said: "We can confirm that flight LS155 from Glasgow to Tenerife diverted to Shannon Airport on Wednesday afternoon so police could offload a disruptive passenger."
