Residents in two pretty UK villages are said to be living in terror of yobs - with some frightened to leave their homes during the day.

A small group of unruly youths are reportedly slashing tyres, vandalising property and intimidating residents in the tranquil Welsh villages of Rhuallt and Tremeirchion.

The incidents have been reported to North Wales Police and Denbighshire's housing team.

However, Cllr Evans has revealed that some villagers are now too frightened to leave their homes during the day, stating it was "making life a misery".  He said: "Young lads and girls are out late at night, and they are wrecking properties. They are going into people's gardens."

Cllr Evans  told North Wales Live: "They've smashed all the windows at the side of a house. They are playing chicken in front of vehicles, shouting abuse, harassing families. North Wales Police are shrugging their shoulders, but it needs to stop."

"North Wales Police and Denbighshire authorities have been approached for a statement regarding Cllr Evans's serious accusations.

He added: "They've smashed a mirror on someone's drive. Last Monday or Tuesday, a resident was verbally abused by a young lad. "The lad squared up to him, and the resident came to me, and that's in the hands of North Wales Police now."

The councillor alleged that some of the youths were "smoking drugs and leaving drug paraphernalia in the bus stop and the old Rhuallt school, reports North Wales Live.

The councillor has voiced his alarm over the local residents' growing fears, stating: "Residents don't feel safe. Most of my residents are over 60 years old, widowers and infirm people.  People don't feel safe going out in the street at 3pm in the afternoon. "

He has raised suspicions that some troublemakers might be "carrying knives", describing it as "a bravado thing".

He added: "Even younger people in their 40s feel threatened. This is a little quaint village. But this is a major issue. People are scared"

During one particularly disturbing episode, Cllr Evans recounted how a woman found intruders in her garden late at night. He detailed the disruptive behaviour plaguing the community.

"They've got no direction," said Cllr Evans. "They are out smoking drugs, writing graffiti, shouting abuse, throwing things at cars, throwing things at cars on the A55 from the footbridge."

Local craftsman Michael Doveton, 54, shared his own experiences, including the destruction of a community bench between Rhuallt and Tremeirchion, which he had to replace after it was "smashed to pieces". Despite his resilience, he acknowledged the villagers' exasperation.

"There are a couple of youngsters that are misbehaving. They are breaking things.  They slashed my tyres six months ago," he revealed. While he personally doesn't feel intimidated, he expressed the challenge of restraint: "You've got to hold back. They try to bait you.  They want you to react. So the frustrating thing is you can't do anything."

Concerned for the elderly in the area, he expressed their struggles with the local ruffians: "There are older people being bothered by them. They are just bullies.

"The police don't seem to be able to do anything about it," he claimed. Mr Doveton continued: "They smashed up the bench on the road between Rhuallt and Tremeirchion. It was a popular bench.

"It is one of the best places overlooking the valley. So I made a new bench to cheer everyone up.  Their behaviour is escalating. Something has got to be done."
