The iconic house from Home Alone is on sale - and it's a bargain

One of the "world's most famous houses" has set the scene for the legendary Home Alone blockbusters - and now it's ready for a new family.

The house famously featured in Christmas blockbuster Home Alone is on the market for the first time in over a decade. Movie fans will know the iconic house for its chaotic McCallister scenes - centred on the family leaving young Kevin behind as they jet off to Europe.

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom mansion in Winnetka, Illinois, USA, is listed at an impressive $5.25 million (£4.1 million). According to American estate agents Zillow, this is the first time the property has been on the market since 2012.

Posting a walkthrough of the interiors, estate agents The Dawn Mckenna Group, said the current owners have doubled the living space with the addition of a large conservatory and built a state-of-the-art basketball court.

The house, described by the company as "one of the most famous houses in the world", also features two living rooms, a large kitchen, a three-car garage and the "unforgettable staircase" which a 10-year-old Macaulay Culkin rode down on a sledge.

While the house still maintains some of its impressive features from the 1990s, much has been changed and modernised.

Welcome to the Home Alone house

The house from Home Alone, the 1990 Christmas classic starring Macaulay Culkin, Catherine O’Hara, Joe Pesci and John Candy, has been listed for sale on Zillow.

Many people will remember the exterior coated in snow, with Christmas lights around it as two burglars try to enter.

Step inside, do you spot anything familiar?

The five-bedroom, six-bathroom property in the Winnetka area of Chicago, Illinois, was used for the exterior shots in the film and its 1992 sequel.

However, it looks vastly different from when Kevin McCallister turned it into a house of horrors to trap burglars Harry and Marv.

Gone are the burgundy interiors, and now the latest owners have white-washed the walls making the open space look contemporary.

Some parts are a little less recognisable

The primary bedroom includes a fireplace, a walk-in closet and a dreamy ensuite, with a giant freestanding tub and separate sinks – meaning tenants can copy Kevin McCallister’s iconic shaving routine in peace.

Once again there's no sign of the 1990s anywhere in here.

Open planned, and lots of space

The house looks hugely different from when Kevin McCallister turned it into his own house of horrors to capture burglars Harry and Marv.

It's hard to picture the McAllister family rushing through it at 100mph as they awoke late for their flight.
