Mass brawl sees 22 people hospitalised and 25 people arrested in UK city

Of the 22 people hospitalised, police say 10 are thought to have sustained serious injuries during a large fight.

A mass brawl that saw around dozens of men reportedly armed with "machetes" has resulted in 25 being arrested and 22 hospitalised.

In a video uploaded to social media, one person suggested there could have been up to 50 people present in the incident in Sheffield on Saturday, May 25.

South Yorkshire Police attended Woodbourn Road at around 2.25pm following reports of a "large group of people fighting in the street". 

They say 22 people remain in hospital following the incident, although their conditions are not considered to be life-threatening.

The 25 people arrested were on suspicion of "multiple violent disorder offences".

Officers say a cordon was in place at the scene, with Woodbourn Road closed between Worthing Road and Parkway Avenue in Sheffield.

Chief Superintendent Simon Wanless, of South Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers have been working through the night at the scene at Woodbourn Road and carrying out extensive enquiries including CCTV trawls.

"I would strongly encourage anyone with information about the incident to come forward. If you were in the area around the time of the incident and have CCTV, video or dashcam footage, please get in touch.

“You will see a heightened police presence in the area today and over the next few days.

"If anyone has any concerns or questions please do stop and speak to officers, they are there to help you.”
