Trafford Park: Emergency response after news of chemical leak
Emergency services have rushed to tackle a major incident in Manchester following reports of a "chemical leak" as a huge 300m cordon remains in place.
Eyewitnesses have reported a huge response to the incident as police, firefighters, and paramedics scrambled to the scene in Trafford Park after receiving reports of a "hazmat incident" at around 9am this morning.
More than a dozen people were assessed, North West Ambulance Service confirmed. No one required further treatment.
Chemicals company Lanxess has reportedly been placed on lockdown as residents are warned to stay away from the scene.
The incident is expected to cause travel chaos as busy Tenax Road is closed in both ways, causing traffic to build up.

Emergency vehicles begin to leave the scene
According to reports from Trafford Park, a number of emergency vehicles have left the scene.
A large cordon still remains on Tenax Road.
More than a dozen people assessed
Over a dozen people have been assessed following the incident in Trafford Park, NWAS confirmed.
A spokesperson said: "At 09.30 this morning, following reports of a chemical leak at an industrial site on Tenax Road, Trafford Park, Manchester, North West Ambulance Service enacted its major incident protocol and sent multiple resources to the scene. This includes its Hazardous Area Response Team and Operational Commanders.
"Very quickly, we have been able to account for all potential patients, assessing more than a dozen people. Nobody has required further treatment.
"Residents and businesses are being advised to keep all windows and doors closed while emergency services work to contain the situation."
NWAS dispatched 'large number' of resources to the major incident
A statement from NWAS said: "Following reports of a chemical leak in the Trafford Park area of Manchester, we have dispatched a large number of resources to the scene.
"We are currently assessing the situation and working with other members of the emergency services."
Residents still urged to avoid the area
The Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust warned people to stay away from the scene and urged residents to keep their windows closed.

Major incident declared
Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that a major incident has been declared by both the fire service and by North West Ambulance Service.
There have been no reported injuries and everyone in the building has been accounted for.
The police statement read: "At around 9am today (Monday 4 March 2024), GMP received reports of a hazmat incident at a business premises on Tenax Road in Trafford Park.
"Officers are currently at the scene along with colleagues from Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service and North West Ambulance Service.
"There has been no reported injuries and everyone at the business premises has been accounted for.
"A 300m cordon is currently in place with residents and business being advised on health grounds to close all doors and windows while investigations continue.
"A number of surrounding roads have been closed as a precaution."

Lanxess Solutions under 'lockdown'
Chemicals company Lanxess reportedly placed under lockdown as emergency crews respond to the incident which is believed to a gas or chemical leak.
Fire crews, alongside police, are currently responding to what we understand to be a possible gas or chemical leak in Trafford Park.

According to reports from the scene, another couple of ambulances have arrived.

Chemical leak believed to be phosphorus oxychloride
According to the Manchester Evening News, the chemical that may have leaked is phosphorus oxychloride.
'Smell' coming from chemicals company building
The siren has now stopped, but a "smell" is reportedly coming from Lanxess.
Lanxess has been contacted for comment.

Travel chaos expected as major road closed
Tenax Road is shut both ways, according to traffic alert service Inrix.
The road is currently shut between Moorings Road and Park Way.
Manchester Evening News reports that Ashburton Road West is also reportedly shut.
