Riot police swarm suburban home as man suspected of 'threats to kill' with fake gun
The Force has confirmed a 31-year-old man has been arrested.
Riot police were spotted raiding a home in suburban Sheffield, after a man allegedly made "threats to kill" and was in possession of an "imitation firearm".
Two images posted on social media reveal several black-clad officers armed with riot shields. Despite the poster of the images claiming to have seen "armed coppers", South Yorkshire Police confirmed to Express.co.uk that officers on the scene were not carrying firearms.
The two images were posted by Vini Souza Jones on X, formerly Twitter, under the caption: "Armed coppers responding to a situation on Dyke Vale Road, heard it was hostages but not certain".
South Yorkshire Police said in a statement to this website that the incident took place on Birley Spa Lane, which is off of Dyke Vale Road.
The Force said in a statement: "We were called shortly before 9am today (30 December) to Birley Spa Lane in Sheffield following reports of concern for a man's safety.
"Officers attended and a road closure was put in place.
"The road has since been reopened and a 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and possession of an imitation firearm."
The road has since been cleared.
