KFC backs down in halal row
FAST food giant KFC is to scrap halal-only menus at five branches after poor sales and boycott calls amid complaints of aiding the “Islamification” of Britain.
They launched nationwide trials to attract customers from among the country’s three million Muslims who are forbidden to eat pork products.
But they are abandoning the plan at five outlets and reviewing others. Among those reverting to a standard menu is one which sparked fury when they refused to serve bacon.
A customer was told he would have to go to a KFC five miles away for bacon. A ‘No Halal’ Facebook protest attracted more than 1,000 supporters. KFC said: “We are still offering halal in 96 restaurants.”
