Toddler crushed in freak car horror
A TODDLER was fighting for her life last night after falling under the wheels of a car she managed to start.
The two-year-old girl was trapped on her parents’ driveway as her horrified mother spoke to a friend nearby.
It’s believed the unnamed child climbed in unseen, turned the ignition key, then fell out as the car jolted backwards. She suffered “life-threatening” head injuries in the freak accident in a quiet cul-de-sac in Plymouth.
Neighbours told of utter panic as the mother realised what had happened. The youngster slipped into unconsciousness but was brought round by ex-Army medic Barry Dunridge, who lived nearby.
His wife Kim, 47, said: “The police called him a hero. I heard a scream then ran over. It was the most awful thing you can possibly imagine. She was trapped under the full weight of the car. I haven’t slept since. It was very traumatic.”
Other neighbours described her as a lovely girl with twin brothers.
Resident James Phillips, 42, added: “It’s every parent’s worst nightmare.”
