Britons in the South are healthier than those in the North
THE North-South divide still exists, official figures show.
Britons in the South East, South West, East of England and London all enjoy better health than those who live in the North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Humber.
Northerners suffer from lower life expectancy and higher mortality rates from cancer, respiratory and circulatory diseases, the Office for National Statistics report shows.
A Department of Health spokesman said: “Everyone should have the same opportunities to lead a healthy life.
“We need to do more to help people in deprived areas.”
Income is also different. North East average household income in 2007/08 was £400 a week while Londoners earned £620.
