Doormat 'a risk to life'
HEALTH and safety fanatics have ordered a tenant to remove a doormat from outside his flat as it “could cause risk to life”.
Housing chiefs also told Jamie Turner, 51, to take down pictures, a basket of flowers and net curtains or else they would be taken away and destroyed.
Mr Edwards, of Telford, Shropshire, said: “It’s the nanny state gone mad. For them to describe my doormat as a risk to life is just bonkers.”
Pamela Edwards, general manager of the Wrekin Housing Trust, defended the decision, saying: “We take the safety
of our tenants very seriously.
“We ask for combustible materials to be removed from communal corridors. If there was a fire, the presence of such items could cause risk to life.”
But Howard Edwards, of the Common Sense Party, said: “The mind boggles. I would suggest these people don’t have enough work to be getting on with.”
