Sabotage of village’s floral show
POLICE have launched an investigation into a weedkiller attack aimed at wrecking a village’s chances of winning the Britain in Bloom floral competition.
They are trying to find out who put a banned chemical on as many as 30 floral displays in Cayton, near Scarborough in North Yorkshire.
The culprit used sodium chlorate, which was banned a year ago, to kill specimen plants in flower beds, a mill wheel and a planter.
Chairman of Cayton In Bloom, Les Hutchinson, said: “It is unbelievable. This is obviously somebody who has something against Britain In Bloom.”
North Yorks Police said they were appealing for information: “It is very disturbing.
“A great deal of time, effort and expense goes into Cayton in Bloom and the organisers are rightly angered and upset by what has happened.”
