Lloyd will dig deep in his marathon 12,000ft down
CHARITY fundraiser Lloyd Scott is taking on his craziest challenge yet – running a marathon 12,000ft underground in a gold mine.
The former cancer sufferer who has walked the London Marathon in a diving suit won backing from England’s World Cup squad after pledging to raise cash for charities backed by them.
Lloyd, 48, and friend Charlie Vincent will face unbearable conditions in the 26.2 mile challenge down the world’s deepest mine in Carletonville, South Africa, next Sunday.
Temperatures can reach 65C (149F) and runners must navigate a treacherous rock trail crossed by a rail line to reach the finish line. Lloyd, from Rainham, Essex, said: “I don’t think anybody has any comprehension of what the conditions will be like.”
