West Drayton: Huge pile of waste burns alongside canal
Massive plumes of smoke are billowing over west London this evening after a fire erupted next to the M25 motorway in Slough. The blaze is thought to have erupted near the Iver Golf Club and Driving Range close to Slough Canal.
Photographs taken at the scene show a huge fire, producing vast quantities of smoke, at a compound near the Langley train and Elizabeth line station.
Flames were visible from houses in the streets surrounding the scene.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) tweeted: "RBFRS are currently tackling a serious fire in a commercial unit on Station Road, Langley.
"Crews are making good progress and expect to be scaling back their operation shortly.
"The public are encouraged to avoid the area if possible."
A RBFRS spokesman added: "At 6:16pm on Sunday, 8 January 2022, we received reports of a fire at a commercial premises on Station Road in Langley.
"Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Wokingham, Mortimer, Crowthorne, Slough, Langley, Maidenhead, Windsor and Wokingham Road fire stations attended the incident, alongside two Officers and the Incident Command Unit from Maidenhead Fire Station and the High Volume Pump from Bracknell.
"Crews from London Fire Brigade and Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service also attended the incident.
"Upon arrival, crews discovered an industrial fire involving tyres, wooden pallets and heavy goods vehicles. Firefighters used four main jets, a hose reel and a water shuttle to extinguish the fire."
Crews were on the scene of the incident for approximately 10 hours and 55 minutes before returning to inspect for hotspots, the spokesman added.
