HUGE delays are reported on the M6 as the road closed after a lorry carrying diesel and oil overturned.
The M6 in Lancashire closed northbound between J32 and J33 after the accident, which happened early this morning. National Highways is suggesting a diversion route, urging drivers to avoid the road and find alternative routes.
Emergency services rushed at the scene to assist.
It is still unknown if anyone was injured from the accident.
According to National Highways. the delay is currently estimated at 90 minutes.
The service said that congestion on the M6 has reached 8 miles, although bypassers wrote on Twitter that the queues reach 14 miles.
Because of the accident, a large amount of diesel and oil had spilled onto the carriageway.
They added: "This will need to be cleared and the road surface inspected for damage."
If you’re heading north on the #m6 it doesn’t look like the northbound closure after Jct 32 is going to be lifted anytime soon. Lorry still on it’s side as of 14:30. All surrounding routes chaotic. #m6closed pic.twitter.com/A42z2kmgsT
