M56 traffic HELL: Bedlam around Manchester Airport after multi-vehicle crash - delays
SEVERE delays were reported on the M56 near Manchester airport, after a crash involving multiple vehicles on Tuesday afternoon.
Two of the four lanes were closed between junctions seven and six on the M56 in order for the emergency services to assist.
National Highways has warned drivers of severe delays of about 45 minutes.
The company urges motorists to allow extra time for their journey
In a post on Twitter, they said: "There are currently 2 lanes ( of 3) closed on the #M56 eastbound between J7 and J6 near @manairport due to a multi vehicle collision.
"Traffic officers are at scene and are dealing with the incident.
"Delays are approx. 45 mins so please allow extra time for your journey."

All lanes reopened shortly before 1pm, although delays remained.
An update from Inrix read: "Severe delays due to earlier accident on M56 Eastbound before J6 A538 Wilmslow Road (Hale Four Seasons Roundabout).
"Congestion to J7 ( Bowdon ). In the roadworks area.
"Travel time is around 60 minutes. All lanes have been re-opened. Lane one (of three) was closed until around 12:40. Lane two had since re-opened around 12:35."
