M25 traffic latest: Multi-car crash involving lorry blocks motorway in Essex gridlock
TRAFFIC has ground to a halt after a multi-vehicle crash on the M25 motorway in Essex.
The collision took place on Tuesday morning, at around 6.30am, going clockwise. Traffic stopped just before Junction 26, the A121, at Waltham Abbey.
Traffic monitoring system, INRIX, said the incident involved "a couple of cars".
It added that one of the cars had pulled over to the side of the carriageway and another was stranded on the central reservation.
The stationary traffic has caused knock-on delays on other junctions of the M25 motorway, including at Potters Bar and Enfield.
Traffic was held on the carriageway from around 7am.
As all traffic was stopped, the cars involved in the collision were recovered.
Motorists were warned by local outlets that they should allow extra time on their journeys.
Just before 7.20am, all lanes were reopened on the carriageway but with significant delays to traffic passing through the area.
Traffic has begun to ease at the junction, but slower travel is still expected.

These delays follow a collision on the anti-clockwise carriageway of the M25 just one junction down last week.
The crash happened between Junction 24 for Potters Bar and Junction 25 for Cheshunt on the M25.
All traffic was stopped before a single lane was reopened to allow some vehicles to trickle through.
The crash on Friday evening saw delays to traffic for hours after a collision.
