Fresh big freeze is on its way
BRITAIN was warned yesterday to brace itself for yet more bad weather, including another big freeze.
An independent forecaster predicted that next weekend would bring heavy rain and strong winds. This could trigger more flood alerts because rivers are already swollen with melting snow.
Jonathan Powell, of Positive Weather Solutions, predicted the storm was likely to be followed by another cold snap next month.
He said: “There’s a storm brewing for the last weekend of this month. This system will certainly pack a punch.
“February promises a return to a possible ‘big freeze’ with snow and bitterly cold temperatures.”
But yesterday the Met Office, whose winter forecast said there was a 50 per cent chance that it would be milder than usual, played down the chances of a severe storm next weekend.
“Nothing exceptional is indicated,” a spokeswoman said.
