M1 traffic nightmare: Huge crash sparks five mile queues and lane closures - updates
A CRASH has closed two lanes of the M1 with five mile queues and warnings of 40 minute-long delays.
M1: Traffic at a standstill following crash near Sheffield
Traffic officers are at the scene of the collision on the M1 northbound at the M18 interchange near Sheffield. National Highways Yorkshire is warning of barrier damage due to the smash and debris in the road.
The AA has reported severe delays on the M1 Northbound between M1 (Woodall Services) and J32 M18 (M18 interchange) with an average speed of five mph.
There is congestion for miles along the route following the incident.
Two lanes have been closed at junction 32 (M18 interchange).
One lane remains open to drivers, with live visuals from motorway cameras showing swathes of traffic on the carriageway.
It is understood the closure has been in place since around 5.40pm.
South Yorkshire Police has been contacted for further details.
