Capital is raking in parking fine cash
EDINBURGH makes more money from traffic fines every year than any other city in Scotland – the equivalent of £11.79 for every man, woman and child living there.
Motorists in the Capital were fined almost £7million last year, making it the most expensive place to park outside London.
In Glasgow, £5,528,000 worth of parking fines were imposed, equal to £7.86 for every resident.
Figures taken from 99 per cent of Britain’s councils were released by campaign group the Taxpayers’ Alliance.
In Aberdeen the £1,265,907 in fines works out at £4.74 for every resident, and Dundee took £5.01 a head.
Perth and Kinross’s figure is £2.04, Stirling is just 22 pence followed by Falkirk at 18 pence.
However, the highest in Britain is Kensington and Chelsea, with an average of £85 per person in 2008-09.
Jennifer Dunn, of the TaxPayers’ Alliance, said: “For many councils, parking fines have become a lucrative source of income.”
