Greenock blackout: Thousands hit by power outage in south-west Scotland
THOUSANDS of people have been plunged into darkness in south west Scotland after a power cut that is currently being investigated.
BBC Weather warn powerful winds could bring power cuts
The power cut has affected the PA15 and PA16 postcode areas of Greenock. Scottish Power are conducting a probe into the outage which affected supplies mainly in the town’s central area.
The energy network addressed the issue, explaining there had been no previous notice of such an incidence.
A spokesperson for the company said: "We had no advance warning of this and only became aware of it at 8.57pm.
"Our control centre will attempt to reset the network remotely to restore power in stages, and our emergency response team are on their way to the area to investigate and repair the fault.
"Our team will work to get power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 11pm.
"We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
Some local residents took to social media to ask other users in the area whether they were experiencing similar issues.
One user wrote: “Anyone else in Greenock had a power cut/power surge?”
Another person responded to the tweet, reporting “a flicker of my lights and that about 20 minutes ago”.
Good Evening, we hope to have all supplies restored by 11pm. Apologies for any inconvenience caused. Regards Jackie
