M60 traffic latest: Vehicles face ‘long queues’ – emergency services respond to 'incident'
VEHICLES travelling on the M60 faced major delays this evening as traffic was halted between J16 and J17 following an incident.
All traffic was stopped on both carriageways between J16 for Salford and Kearsley and J17 for Whitefield and Prestwich during rush hour.
Police and traffic officers rushed to the scene at about 4.20pm.
Highways England North West said on Twitter: "The #M60 clockwise #J16 (#Salford #Kearsley) to #J17 (#Whitefield #Prestwich #A56) traffic has been temporarily STOPPED due to an incident.
"@gmptraffic @NWmwaypolice & Traffic Officers are on their way to the area."
North West Motorway Police added: “Clockwise and Anticlockwise carriageways closed on M60 between j17 and j16 while Police deal with incident, please be patient.”
Police resolved the incident shortly after 4.30pm, but traffic is yet to resume to normal levels.
Traffic alert service Inrix said long delays remain.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said they responded to an incident between J13 and J14 earlier today.
The traffic collision involved three vehicles but there were no casualties.
It is not clear whether this is the same incident as the one that caused the closure of the carriageways between J16-J17 this afternoon.
