Twiggy backs Express campaign Brilliantly British as she launches new photo competition
LEGENDARY model Twiggy has revealed what the judges will be looking for in the Daily Express Brilliantly British photograph competition.
The British icon is one of the judges for the Daily Express Brilliantly British campaign which is asking the nation to support homegrown businesses. The Brilliantly British Photo Competition is a nationwide search to find a positive photograph that captures a modern, diverse and inclusive Britain in 2020. Twiggy, whose real name is Dame Lesley Hornby, will be joined by V&A Director Tristram Hunt, The Young Vic’s Artistic Director Kwame Kwei Armah, star of stage and screen Shobna Gulati and award-winning Fleet Street photographer Mike Moore.
Speaking to Sky News, Twiggy said: "I'm very excited they asked me to be the lead judge.
"I've spent many years on the other side of the camera so I've learnt a lot and I think photography is very important and very exciting because if you see a great photograph, you remember it all your life.
"The one that always springs to my mind is the sailor kissing the nurse in New York after the end of World War 2.
"That's such an amazing, emotive photograph.

"I think that's what we as the judges will be looking for.
"Something very emotive, something very British and to give people enthusiasm for going out there and taking photographs.
"I want everyone to get snapping as soon as they can."
Twiggy has said that she is "thrilled" to be part of the Daily Express judging panel.

She said: "After a year like 2020, we need art more than ever, it offers hope, and gives a voice to those who need one most."
The judges will also be joined by Daily Express Editor Gary Jones, and the Express’ Digital Arts Editor Stefan Kyriazis.
The competition is open to all amateur photographers, with the chosen photo set to be displayed in the V&A and the winner to get their hands on the latest iPhone.
Entries can be shot on anything from a mobile phone to the latest Canon.
Entrants can submit their photos online here, before 6pm on Saturday, January 2.
Taking on the mantle of judge, Twiggy will be looking for something that "says Britain to me" from the entries.
It might be something hard-hitting going on in the world today, or it could be "incredibly beautiful in the way we all need at the moment," she said.
Aside from modelling, Twiggy is an acclaimed actress who won two Golden Globes for The Boyfriend in 1971 and has appeared on Broadway.
A singer, TV presenter and fashion designer, she was awarded a damehood in the Queen's New Year Honours 2019 for her services to fashion and the arts.
