Life for rapist who preyed on teenage girl
A RAPIST once branded Scotland’s most dangerous sexual predator was yesterday given his second life sentence despite a last-ditch attempt to clear his name.
David McMillan, 33, earlier admitted trying to lure a vulnerable 14-year-old girl to his home just days after being released from prison.
He was already banned from contacting young girls when he began bombarding the teenager with phone calls and text messages.
McMillan told the youngster he had drink and drugs and asked her to meet him at his flat in Perth.
The girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, had no idea McMillan had brutally raped a pensioner.
In astonishing scenes at the High Court in Edinburgh yesterday McMillan revealed he had sacked his lawyers.
The serial sex offender insisted that he thought the girl was 19 years old and said he wanted to withdraw his guilty plea and stand trial.
McMillan said: “I was given nonsense for legal advice.”
But Judge Lord Brodie said a trial could not go ahead and told him: “It is simply not something I can do.”
Sentencing him to life, Lord Brodie said background reports had described him as a danger to the public and told him he must serve a minimum of 18 months.
“You deliberately breached the order or were reckless in doing so. This is not a trivial matter, having regard to your history” he said.
After his arrest in August last year, McMillan appeared at Perth Sheriff Court where he pleaded guilty to breaching a rare Sexual Offences Prevention Order granted against him earlier this year after police predicted he would strike again on being freed.
McMillan was jailed for life in 1996 for the rape of a 73-year-old woman, but after an appeal he was let out after six years.
