Election 2019: Water main bursts near Bermondsey polling station
Britons are heading to the polls today to cast their votes for the 2019 snap election that has already disrupted their Christmas plans. But voters in Bermondsey, south London, may find it very difficult to cast their vote as a water pipe suddenly burst on Jamaica Road causing extreme flooding. Residents took it to Twitter to document the incident. One Twitter user wrote: "Burst water main on Jamaica Road, #Bermondsey prevents access to Polling Station. #GE2109"
And another: "Blimey. This has been going all night then! Hell of a leak #SE16 #thameswater"
The violent burst of water seemed to have started on Wednesday night and remains untamed on Thursday morning.
Thames Water responded to one Twitter user writing: "Hi there, I'm sorry for the disruption caused. Our engineers are on site now and we'll get the burst repaired as quickly as we can - Emily."
Voters in West Sussex where also disrupted this morning as a car crash occurred outside a polling station at 9am, police have confirmed.
The car collided with a wall at West Ashling and Funtington District Hall.
The polling station has not been damaged and remains open.
