Former MI6 boss hammers Jeremy Corbyn over national security - ‘danger to our country’

Richard Dearlove, who headed Britain’s overseas intelligence agency between 1999 and 2004, urged the British people not to make the Labour leader premier. Britons go to the polls on December 12 in an election which is likely to produce either a Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn led Government.
Speaking to the Mail on Sunday about the Labour leader Mr Dearlove said: “Do not even think of handing this politician the keys to No10”.
As a backbench Labour MP, Mr Corbyn caused outrage in 2009 by describing members of Hamas and Hezbollah as his “friends”.
Both are listed as terrorist groups by the British Government and have a long history of deliberately targeting civilians.

It comes as a major Datapraxis model was released showing the Conservatives are on course for a majority of 48 according to the Mail on Sunday.
The model was based on data from 270,000 YouGov interviews.
Writing in the Mail on Sunday Mr Dearlove said: “Those of us old enough to have experienced the Cold War first hand have a duty to warn the younger generation about the dangers to our freedoms from Communist regimes like East Germany and to remind our own generation about them.

“Today, in the home of parliamentary democracy, we are faced with the possibility that a leader of the Labour Party who once preferred East Germany’s political and economic model of government could become Prime Minister.
“Corbyn and his closest associates are compromised by their past.
“The political company they have kept has been authoritatively documented.
“It is important that every citizen understands who and what they would be voting for.”

Mr Dearlove went on to say Mr Corbyn and some of his closest associates would fail security vetting if they applied to work for Britain’s security services.
However as Prime Minister Mr Corbyn would get access to top secret intelligence.
The Labour Party has repeatedly insisted its leader is committed to democratic socialism and has called for the franchise to be extended to 16 and 17 year olds.
Mr Dearlove continued: “Corbyn as Prime Minister, together with his current advisers, could be a present danger to our country.
“Labour Party members and supporters, if they cannot bring themselves to vote for another party, should choose to abstain.
“Do not even think of taking the risk of handing this politician the keys to No 10.
“The soft-spoken, apparently gentle old man who is promising voters the world may not be quite as he now wishes to present himself.
“His radical past portrays the truth about what type of politician he was, a political relative of the gang of Communist henchmen who created East Germany.
“And there were few nastier regimes in post-War Europe than East Germany.”
Mr Johnson called the general election to help get his Brexit deal through Parliament.
Labour has pledged to hold a second referendum on Britain’s EU membership, with ‘Remain’ on the ballot paper, if it wins the upcoming poll.
