Tesco lockdown: Armed police storm Leicester store to grab meat cleaver wielding attacker
A MAN was arrested after brandishing a meat cleaver in front of terrified shoppers at a Tesco in Leicester this morning.

Police were pictured outside a Tesco in Narborough Road 8.35am this morning, according to LeicestershireLive. Customers were evacuated after the man started making threats, but they have since been allowed back into the supermarket. A spokeswoman for Leicestershire Police said: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of affray following an incident at a store in New Park Street, Leicester, this morning (Mon).
“Officers were called to the premises at 8.35am following a report of a man with a knife in the store making threats to others.
“In the interest of public and officer safety, armed police were deployed to the scene.
“A 37-year-old man, of Leicester, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of affray and currently remains in police custody.
"It is believed the item he was in possession of was a meat cleaver.

“Other people who were in the store at the time were evacuated from the building and no injuries have been reported.
“The store is now back open and police currently remain at the scene carrying out enquiries.
"Officers are also in the area providing reassurance to people in the area."

The man was also filmed appearing to wander around the fruit and vegetable aisle with the knife.
One eyewitness said he saw a “police officer with a gun running towards the store”.
He told Leicestershire Live: “The store’s alarm was sounding and there were police cars arriving from all around.
"It looks like something serious has happened.”
