Bercow SNUBBED: Ex-Speaker rejected by exclusive club after controversy 'made from chair'
JOHN BERCOW has been snubbed in his bid to gain Wimbledon membership. The ex-Speaker of the House of Commons revealed someone withdrew his nomination to become a member of the All England Club.

Alastair Campbell was interviewing Mr Bercow for British GQ. John Bercow had been Speaker of the House of Commons for a decade but left his role on October 31, 2019. His time as Speaker will be remembered for ruling over fierce Brexit debates as the process turned toxic.
Mr Campbell asked: "Did I read right that you have been turned down Wimbledon membership?"
The former Conservative MP replied: "Well I haven’t received any formal communication to that effect but someone who was putting me up for membership to the All England Club changed his mind.
"I won’t go into all that, he is perfectly entitled to his view.
"He is someone that I have always liked and respected."

Alastair Campbell enquired: "You have to be put up for it?"
Mr Bercow responded: "You have to be proposed by a number of people and this particular person disapproved of decisions I had made from the chair.
"And wrote to me to say that in the circumstances he felt he would withdraw his nomination.
"Do I bear any ill will towards this person? No.

"Am I bothered about it? No, I’m not.
"Am I losing any sleep over it? No, I’m not."
Mr Campbell said: "I always thought you were the sort of guy who wouldn’t care that much about being clubbable.
"Do you want to be part of the establishment?"

Mr Bercow replied: "Do I have a sort of passion for joining that club, am I obsessed about it? No.
"Would I religiously object to the idea? No."
Alastair Campbell then posed the question: "What about the House of Lords?"
To which the ex-Speaker replied: "Well if I were invited to go to the House of Lords I guess I would but we will have to see."
