Sir Fred’s banking on a sunshine holiday
HE may have led the Royal Bank of Scotland to near collapse, but Sir Fred Goodwin still seems to be seeking a place in the sun.
Yesterday his destination was the south of France and he was pictured at Heathrow, right, with his wife, Lady Joyce.
It was the first time in five months that the man nicknamed Fred the Shred for his aggressive cost-cutting methods had been pictured in public.
And although his boardroom days may be behind him, Sir Fred is still seen in high places. Earlier, he had been a lunch guest of Prince Charles at Clarence House.
The table talk probably wasn’t about high finance, though – it was Sir Fred’s last meeting after six years as chairman of the Prince’s Trust before being replaced in the role by Carphone Warehouse chief executive Charles Dunstone.
