Main parties ‘con the public’ as influx heads for 9 million
MASS immigration will put Britain’s population on course to rise by another nine million – whichever party wins the next election, it is claimed today.
Research shows that the annual influx of migrants must be slashed by at least three-quarters to prevent the UK population rising to 70million.
Yet the border policy proposals of both Labour and the Tories will not go anywhere near matching that reduction, according to findings to be published today in a report by the population think-tank Migrationwatch.
It will come as a particular blow to David Cameron, given the Tory pledge to introduce an annual limit on immigration, and raises concerns that many voters’ anger at the soaring influx is being ignored by mainstream parties.
Sir Andrew Green, Migrationwatch chairman, said: “The main parties talk tough on immigration, but they are trying to con the British public.
“According to Government figures, we can expect almost another 10 million people in England in 20 years time, of which seven million will be due to immigration.”
He warned that failure to address the issue would increase support for groups like the British National Party.
